I qualified as a solicitor in 1987, having joined Kidd & Spoor as a Graduate Trainee directly from University. In 1991 I became a Partner in the firm and over the years have been involved in most aspects of what Kidd & Spoor do. As a result I have built up a valuable experience across a wide range of subjects.

For many years, my main interest and specialist knowledge was in criminal defence work, working as a court lawyer on a daily basis, representing defendants, often in complex and high profile cases. I worked as a duty solicitor for excess of 30 years and was one of the first solicitors in Newcastle to attain Higher Rights off Audience (HRA) qualification, enabling me to represent clients in the higher courts.

Some years ago, I decided that I needed a new challenge and I now undertake private client work, more specifically specialist legal work for the older person.  My colleague Julia Russell now heads up our criminal defence department.

I am now based and work predominantly from our Whitley Bay office. I am, however, always prepared to travel to see clients either at home or at our Newcastle office.

I have a friendly, personable approach and provide sound, easy to understand, common sense advice.

Educated in North Yorkshire – I made the move North to Newcastle in 1989 to study Accountancy.  However, I had always maintained a strong interest in legal matters and decided to make the “switch”; completing my conversion to Law and Legal practice course at Northumbria University and qualifying as a Solicitor in 1998. My specialist areas are in Criminal and Family Law and I am a member of the Newcastle Duty Solicitor scheme for Criminal concerns.  I hold Membership of the Law Society Children Panel and am also Resolution accredited with regard to dealing with Family matters.

I am always happy to deal with initial enquiries face-to-face or, if you wish, by phone or by email. Please give me a call, our first meeting will always be undertaken without charge or obligation.

I qualified as a Solicitor in 1995 and prior to joining Kidd & Spoor I worked in private practice in Birmingham, London and the North East. Latterly I have worked in the public sector within H.M Courts Service.

I have recently joined Kidd & Spoor’s well-established Private Client department. I handle all aspects of private client work, from wills, trusts, estate planning and administration to lasting powers of attorney and I have a particular interest in Intestacy Law.

I understand how stressful it can be instructing a Solicitor in this area of law and I pride myself on having an empathetic and friendly relationship with clients. From the smallest estates to complex matters my aim is to guide and support my clients through the process.  Please contact me for an initial free, no obligation chat.

I joined the Newcastle West Road office in March 1995 when I returned to my roots in the North-East. After taking on a variety of roles and gaining valuable experience within the firm I became Practice Manager in 2001, and am now based at Whitley Bay.

My role is not a legal one; it is to oversee the day-to-day activities and administration of both practices – so that Kidd & Spoor runs smoothly and that both offices run efficiently. As such I become involved in many and varied tasks, with the objective being to ensure our “house” is in order, thus helping the legal experts to do their work as effectively as possible. I am proud to say that recently I was instrumental in helping the firm to achieve the Lexcel accreditation; a mark of quality and high standards awarded by the Law Society.

We are always looking to improve how we operate at Kidd & Spoor so should you wish to comment on any aspect of how the Practice functions I’d be very happy to listen (good points or bad welcome!). Please do give me a call.
